Comment on Warning: NFP Could Ruin Your Marriage by Michelle

The timing here is interesting. Today, I posted about the struggles of using NFP for a long period of time (say 12-15 years) and whether I could even satisfy that call should it be what we're called to. It definitely seems like it would be easier sometimes to sterilize or to take a pill and not have to worry about pregnancy...but of course, as you point out here, there are other problems inherent there. Now that we've lived a life with NFP for 11 years, I can't imagine any other way. It doesn't mean it is easy by any means...just that I don't see how I could live any other way any more.

Perhaps some day there will be new ministries carried out by and for those living the sacrament of marriage.

Indeed, in Humanae Vitae (paragraph 26) Paul VI called for this, and that is precisely why John Kippley founded the Couple to Couple League.

Hi brian,

Sorry for the earlier comment, I made some mistake at the html code.

This is very interesting for me:

"The use of contraception to run away from self-mastery inevitably leads to the loss of consciousness of sin. It leads to the profound ignorance that causes someone to say “as long as I’m basically a good person I don’t need to go to Mass.”

Especially when there is a strong social pressure like : "everybody is doing that, so maybe its ok", this post has become a reminder for me.

Thanks for sharing.

Oh my goodness, I cannot believe that commercial!

Another great post. I especially appreciated your exploration of pleasure in context, and the danger of trying to separate it from that context. Lots of good questions here.

Great insights! Homosexuality and same-sex marriage is one of the hardest things to convince people on if they have friends living that lifestyle. They argue that they're in love, they should be allowed to be married. The most success comes from an argument of anthropology and male/female complementarity but often that just goes on deaf ears. I wonder how much of this comes from what you're talking about here. People are numbed to the idea that we're made to be in man/woman relationships because sex has been so effectively removed from fertility.
